A place that will surprise you

OUR SURROUNDINGS

The Hotel Pleamar is situated above a small fishing village, Puerto de Vega, in this attractive area of the western coast of Asturias. The village is often voted the most beautiful village in Spain and is well worth visiting.  We also have two beaches within 2 kilometres walk of the hotel, picturesque coastal walking routes and beautiful interior villages of rich historical significance.

Puerto de Vega is a fishing village where traditions are still  mixed with the smell of the sea and where you will be able to become involved with  its people and enjoy the local customs. You can visit the fish market, the Maritime Museum, explore the “Almenas”, and a historical defensive fortification at the entrance of the port.

You can take a good picture from the viewing point Mirador a “Atalaya”, a small white fisherrmans` chapel which also served as a look out for the fishing boats

BEACHES

The closest beach to Pleamar is Playa Frejulfe which is just 1.5 kilometres west of the hotel and stretches for a kilometre.  This is a perfect place to relax, go for long walks near the sea or enjoy a magnificent sunset. It’s a well known surfing beach as well – so perfect for those who love surfing or other water sports.

If you prefer peace and nature, the Playa de Barayo is your beach!!! Declared a Natural Reserve “The Beach of Barayo” offers you silence, and wild and spectacular spaces even in high season. It is just 3 kilometres to the east of the hotel, or you could walk along 5 kilometers of farmland and wild, rugged coastline.

“COSTA NAVIEGA” WALKING ROUTE

One of the most beautiful coastal walking routes in Asturias runs directly in front of the hotel.  The Costa Naviega follows 21 kilometers of dramatic cliffs and vales, through farmlands, beaches and wooded alcoves.  Beginning at the Beach of Barayo and running through villages to the nearby market town of Navia, this is a long but relatively easy walk, or a good workout for the runners - most of the track is accessible to bicycles. There are many photo opportunities and beautiful picnic spots along the way.

Distance 21 kilometres / Difficulty:  Easy /Time: 2 hours by bicycle, between 4 and 6 hours on foot.
